Vintners: Ostiane Durrbach

biodynamic  organic wine

Domaine de Trévallon is one of the leading wine domains in southern France, located in Provence at the edge of the Alpilles Mountains between Avignon and Arles.

The first vines were planted in 1973 by the domain's founder, Eloi Dürrbach, on his father's estate. Dürrbach died in 2021 and the domain, which is still in the hands of d family, is today run by his daughter Ostiane.

The estate covers 15 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and two acres of white grape varieties, most of which are Marsanne, Roussanne and Chardonnay. The first wines were produced in 1976.

A new winery was built in 2013, whose architecture reflects the estate's latest wine labels. These have been in use since 1996 and were designed by Eloi's father, René, an eminent painter and sculptor whose work can be found throughout the estate.

Vinification methods are natural and non-interventionist: no destemming, fermentation of whole bunches and natural yeasts. The wines are bottled without filtering.

From the beginning, the wines were known as Les Baux de Provence AOC. In 1993, however, INAO, the French body responsible for appellations, decided that the wines should become Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône because they contained too much cabernet sauvignon.

They are now marketed under the IGP Alpilles, which covers the western part of the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
