This region begins at the gates of Bordeaux, so much so that some vineyard plots are now surrounded by buildings. There are two appellations: Pessac-Léognan (A.O.C. created in 1987 and delimited in the northern part of the vineyard) and Graves. Both areas produce supple and fragrant whites and reds. There is a third appellation (Graves Supérieures), formerly reserved for sweet whites, but which is no longer used in a representative way.
